So far this week, we have talked about getting all the paper in your life sorted and organized so you can move forward with a good system. I also presented a filing system that works at both work and at home. Today – I want to talk about cutting down the paper all together.
That is why it is important to find other ways to get information.
This is really pretty easy and you’ll be amazed at how much you can get your paper situation under control if you take a few steps to stop the paper from coming in.
1. Stop the junk mail – there are many ways to do this and many can be found online. Here is one tool that I found http://donotmail.org/
2. Elect to get your statements, invoices, bills, etc. via email notification. – Not only does this reduce paper, but it is also safer.
3. Browse catalogs online – versus receiving catalogs in the mail.
4. Read newspapers and magazines online.
5. Use online tools like www.delicious.com to bookmark your favorite websites. The nice thing about websites like this is it is web-based and not computer based like ‘bookmarks” are. And instead of printing out that article for your next vacation destination or a recipe you’d like to try, you can save it to “My Delicious” and call it up anytime, anywhere.
Hope these are some ideas that will work for you. Have others? Please feel free to share! Want more information on these ideas – feel free to comment or contact me directly.
Hope you have a wonderful day.

Yesterday I wrote about sorting through the mountains of paper that collect in your desk, counter or tables. And now that you have all these papers sorted – what do you do with them?
I suggest to clients that they keep projects and sorted materials in a filing system such as this.
I prefer this sort of folder to a manila folder or the old school folders that have pockets, because they are completely enclosed. The fact that they also expand is helpful for holding items other than paper.
Whether you use this system for your home organization or in your professional world, they will do the trick. For a home system, I suggest you keep a folder for each of your children, home projects, vacation ideas, bills, coupons, etc. For work you can keep important papers to read and individual projects filed separately and neatly. And for either situation, when you are working on one topic; you just pick up the entire folder and go.
Click on the pic below to get more information on the folders.
Let me know what you think. Do you use a system similar to this? If not, what works for you?
Hope you have a great day!

I recently had a very compelling conversation with a good friend of mine named Beth. (She agreed to let me share her story on my blog.) She told me that she was having a hard time getting going now that the Holiday Season is over and the New Year was upon us. She feels that around this time of each year, she puts a lot of stress and emphasis on starting over and fresh; in actuality, nothing has changed in her life except the numbers in the year. She still struggles with balancing work, motherhood, finances, personal time. We talked about why is it that just because the year’s numbers roll over, things are magically supposed to fall into place?
I got to thinking, I wonder how many other people feel the same way that Beth feels? What’s the old saying “I hear tell the road to hell is paved with good intentions.” Have your good intentions, a.k.a. resolutions, fallen by the wayside already and here it is, only the 10th.
Maybe the best way to get going this year is to get help. Sometimes, this help is in the form of a professional. Make this year’s resolutions a success by approaching them differently and hire that professional that can help you achieve your goals. Professional help comes in all forms these days; personal trainers, cleaning services, childcare, grocery delivery, financial help…the list goes on and on. OH – don’t forget, if you are feeling that your routine can use some tweaking or a major adjustment, I can help with that.
I am pretty sure I convinced Beth to get help in a couple of areas that she can surely use it. And I hope to follow her and her progress.
And who doesn’t love a little Randy Travis on a Monday morning?
Hope your Monday is off to a great start!
