Minute by minute

my thoughts on making the most out of all of life's minutes…

I see the sunrise!

Good Morning!

I mean that literally!

I remember when I was in high school, for some reason our biology teacher, Mrs. Copeland, told us a secret of hers.  She said that everyone morning she got up about an hour earlier than everyone else in her home.  She continued to say that this was her protected time, where she read the paper, got a cup of coffee and just sat in the quiet and stillness of the day and the house.

I’m not really sure how or why she was telling us this in a high school biology class, but over the years (over twenty now – eeekkk) – – this has resonated with me.  So much so, that I think of Mrs. Copeland often as I, myself, rise early the majority of my mornings too.

I’ve always been a bit of a morning person – well – I tend to wake pretty easily.  Even with my insomnia issues I’ve suffered from over the last ten years, I always seems to get up relatively early.  This morning, even before my alarm went off at 5:30am – I was awake by 4:45am.

Like Mrs. Copeland, I enjoy the stillness of the morning.  Usually, I get work done, sometimes I read, sometimes I stay in bed and watch the morning news.  I find that within this time, I can start my day on my terms – and not in response to alarm clocks, kids, dogs, etc.

If you are thinking to yourself – “Amy – this is crazy talk – I”m not giving up one extra minute of sleep.” – -I would like to invite you to give it a try.  Maybe one morning a week to be quiet and with yourself.  Save this time and protect it.  I’m not suggesting you need to jump in and get to work.  Do something you enjoy – maybe read a chapter in you book, watch a show you DVR’d or just – – be.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.  Do you think this is crazy — crazy/brilliant or crazy/crazy!
