Laundry tips – Part 4 – Mesh bags

Happy Friday Everyone,

Today’s tip will add hours to  your life.  What if I said you will never have to sort and fold socks again?

What” you say “what is the secret to no more sock folding?”

Two words – – Mesh bags!

You know those mesh bags that are typically used for dedicates?  Why not use them for all sorts of items?  They work really well, come in different colors and sizes.

If you have household where there are many similar items; socks, underwear, t-shirts, etc….use mesh bags to keep them all separate.

Here’s how it works:  each person (if they are able to by age and ability) puts similar items into different mesh bags when disrobing.  One laundry day (not days  – see tip one) – everyone brings their dirty laundry to the inconvenient sorting place, and each bag is placed in its appropriate load pile.  Once it is dried, the mesh bag goes directly to the drawer.

That last part is where I have struggled in my adult life.  I grew up in a home where every socked was matched, folded and rotated neatly in the drawer.  Same went for all my clothing.  I have let myself and my family relax a bit from there and realize that keeping the sock drawer neat and organized is has hard as herding kittens.  So let the kids match their socks that are in the mesh bag that is neatly in the drawer.  Added bonus socks will never lose their mates.

Here’s a sample of what I am talking about.  http://www.amazon.com/Honey-Can-Do-LBG-01144-Sweater-Wash-White/dp/B001F51AP8/ref=pd_sim_k_3

I like this particular one because it is larger than a standard delicates bag.  And as you are shopping around, you’ll notice they come in a variety of sizes and even colors.

There are four more tips in this series – but I’m taking the weekend off.  I’ll be back on Monday with more laundry tips.

Hope your weekend is great!
